Well, if this isn't a perfect boy looking for the perfect home...

... his foster momma writes --

"Max is an ambassador for the breed.

Max is a 3-4-year old red-nose AmStaff or APBT who was at one point an apartment dog (living with a grandmother and kids, as I understand it) but then about 17 months ago was dumped in a junk yard where he languished, sometimes not fed for days, until about 2 weeks ago.

At one point last winter, when it was really snowing, he wasn’t fed for two weeks and was tied up in the back of the lot where we couldn’t get food to him.  When we finally could, he had lost so much weight, he was nothing but skin and bones. (There was a three-month old female pup tied up with him who, I believe, didn’t survive that period.  What is WRONG with PEOPLE???)"

"Max is the dog I have ALWAYS wanted: he has a smile that goes on for miles.  And, oh my gosh, his golden eyes! He is a beauty, with his eye patches, he looks like a panda.

When he was in the ‘yard, I used to feed him by putting my hand underneath the door.  He was so sweet, eating gingerly from my hand and giving me lots of kisses.  He was so miserable there, he would wail a heart breaking wail when he first got dumped there."

She continues:

"If I hadn’t adopted my second dog in February I would definitely keep him. But, I already have two pits and two cats and my neighbor has two dogs.  I am fostering him until we can find him a permanent home.

I got him neutered on Monday when he also got his rabies shot.  He will get the rest of his shots in the next week or two.  At that time, he’ll get a complete check up.

Temperament-wise, he is very well adjusted.  He gets along with both male and female dogs: he plays very well with my 8-mo male and 20-mo female and at least five other dogs in my building.  He loves to play with his ball, play rope tug with my pup, and will drop and give a tremendous roll over for belly rubs.

He walks politely on a leash—I often walk him and one of mine on a coupled leash—but sometimes he shows leash aggression towards certain dogs—usually when they’re barking.  He knows basic obedience commands such as SIT and COME; I am working with him to teach him DOWN, STAY, OUT, DROP IT, etc.  He is learning very quickly!  He loves treats, which I don’t think he had ever had before.  (What’s up with this rawhide? What do I do with it?)  But he’s so gentle when he takes them, it puts my dogs to shame:J

He’s surprisingly good with cats: he’s curious about them, he likes to get close (with his tail wagging) and sniff them, but he backs off when called.  I supervise him when the cats are out but he’s definitely not going after them as prey.  (As I write this, he’s playing with his Kong while the cats lie on the floor across from him.)

He’s great with people as well.  He didn’t know me except as a hand that would feed him under the fence, but he’s very loving—lots of kisses, lots of sitting in my lap, lying on his pillow while I lie on the couch, etc. If anything is a negative it’s that he’s a little jealous of my interaction with male friends. He hasn’t growled but he does bark somewhat.  But, as he settles down with a permanent home and this issue is worked on, I think he will be fine. "

Soooo.... if your interested in a pup with "history" that you want to improve, this boy is for you --
