Well, this boy couldn't come in with more of a bang -- Cedric, the tiger-striped pit bull -- WHAT A HAM!
His rescuer, CJ, writes --
"I am currently fostering a 7-8 month old neutered male pup. He was picked up by dog control and put in a shelter. My friend is working there, and told me how sweet and wonderful this boy was, and asked if I could foster him."
|
"My question to you, is what do I need to know, to keep him this sweet and gentle puppy? I currently have 5 dogs of my own, 2 Jack Russell Terrier, A Cairn Terrier, and 2 Dobermans. I have done a lot of rescue for years, 3 years of just JRT's, and many purebred and mixed breeds. I also do in my home boarding, usually 4 dogs is my limit.
I do not have a kennel situation, all the dogs are loose in my home, and Thank you Lord, no serious fights have ever occurred. I have a strong obedience competition background, agility, and attend as many dog related seminars as possible every year, which include nutrition, holistic and homeopathic treatment, dog behavior, and rescue."
|
"I have never rescued a pit bull before, no reason, it just didn't happen. So far, the puppy, named Cedric, has been a dream. Totally housebroke, non-destructive, respectful of senior dogs, not a cat chaser, loves small people, and adults.
He has a lot of energy, and is very playful, the kong being one of his favorite toys. I am consistently petting him while eating, will ask for his bone he is chewing, teaching him basic obedience, sit, down, come, wait. He excels in all of the above.
There have been several applications to adopt him, but none that deemed capable of fulfilling the responsibility of owning a pit bull yet. Any and all of your help, and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much."

April 5th, 2006 update --
CJ writes --
"Thanks for getting back to me, but Cedric, the pit puppy is now at my friends house, waiting to be adopted. Meanwhile he is attending obedience classes, and being socialized on a daily basis, and taken for long hikes on a wonderful Finger Lakes trail. He is flourishing.
My friend is the one who works for Cortland SPCA, and she asked me to keep him temporarily, she has a dog boarding and training facility, was full due to mid-winter break and couldn't take him at the time, but had to get him out of the shelter. He is such a loving and eager to please little boy, not to mention extremely handsome, dark brindle/white chest, and black mask.
If you by chance have anyone looking for a 7 month old neutered, UTD on shots, heartworm negative, perfect pit, please keep me in mind. He has all the basic obedience down pat, and has unlimited capabilities.
Thank you so much, CJ"

The Inquiry...
Dear Eric --
I just wanted to write to you and tell you how wonderful your website is. Its so amazing to see people working so hard to save such an amazing breed of dog. I have recently applied to adopt one of these beautiful babies, Cedric the Pit Bull. When I saw his picture it was love at first site. He completely stole my heart.
We have two dogs right now (two beautiful girls, a Pit Bull and a Yorkie) and I know that Cedric would make a perfect last addition to our loving family. I was also wondering if you knew about how long it takes to get a response back after applying. My family and I are very anxious to find out if we are going to be having a new baby boy in our Family.
Again, I just want to say that you are an amazing person for doing what you do and helping these poor pups. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully getting a chance to meet Mr.Cedric.
Sincerely, Karen

...and the JOY!

Well, here's our little Cedric at home, cool as a cucumber -- Kelly writes --
"Hi Eric -- I just thought Id send you a few pictures of Cedric with his new Big Sister Isabel! He is doing wonderful. He is very attached to his family and follows us all over the house.
He chews some things when we leave him alone but he is a puppy so we will give him some time to learn not to do that and we are trying to learn not to leave things where he can find them :)"
|
Well, I guess this is his big sister, Isabel -- !!
Isabel is a Yorkie, and she is tough as a female canine can be, I bet --
-- as always, though, heightened responsibility needs to occur when parenting multiple pups, and most importantly, the dogs MUST be crated when unattended, as Kelly does --
-- if she forgets to crate, I'm sure Isabel reminds her -- !!

|
So, getting back to our boy, he's happy, and home -- forever!
That smile is worth 1,000 words -- !!
|
Due to a lot of peoples' hard work, especially CJ, little Cedric is a comedian of the household again --
-- he is happy, and he is home. enjoying the days with his big sister --
GREAT WORK, ALL!
