As I received it --

"I'm writing again because I wanted to put another volunteer from the LA-SPCA in touch with you if you don't mind. Her name is Johanna. She's been looking for the house dog from a New Orleans vet clinic where she worked ever since Katrina, and she thinks she finally found him. Two other dogs (very sweet pit bulls) at the clinic that belonged to her friend and coworker died when they weren't rescued, and Johanna is desperate to make sure things end happily for Jackson. Here's his story in her words:"

"Jackson is really a great dog. He has been through a hell of a lot...in 2003, an NOPD officer found Jackson on the side of the road with a face that was unrecognizable (hamburger meat is the best description of what his face looked like). He had been used as a bait dog. Amy (the vet at the clinic) did tons of reconstructive surgery on Jackson because the cop said he'd keep him. So, in July of this year, the cop had a friend bring Jackson back to the clinic, saying he couldn't keep him anymore."

"He had obviously kept Jackson outside in a kennel...he didn't even know his name, wasn't potty trained, and his teeth were all worn down from chewing on the metal cage. We were keeping him at the clinic in hopes of finding him a good home, and then the hurricane hit. Amy neutered him in the beginning of August, he's current on all his vaccines, and he is an angel, though he doesn't get along with unneutered males and cats. We started doing obedience training with him, and he was doing AWESOME!!! (way better than my two dogs were).

I think the attention I gave him at the clinic was more love than he had ever gotten in his whole life, and I could tell that he appreciated it. I told my dad about him, and took some pictures in early August to show pics of him to my friends. I've attached two of them to this email...he has scars on his face, but his heart is still huge! We don't know how he is with kids since we've never seen him around them, but he has never acted aggressively except towards cats and one unneutered male.

Given his history, I don't know if it would be best to try to find him a home as a single dog...but I can tell you that at obedience class, he was in love with another employee's dog, a little yorkie. He wouldn't stop kissing Dodger for the life of him!

I think he is in Tulsa Oklahoma at the Humane Society there. I don't want to start contacting people until I find out if it is Jackson, but I am fairly sure that it is. I know that most rescues are probably filled to the brim with hurricane pitties, but I thought I could give it a try, anyways.  "

"With 4 dogs at my house here, there is no way that Jackson could stay with me. But, if I can't find him a safe place or a foster home, I will have him flown up here. I will try to board him at the vet clinic I'm working at, and hopefully get him some publicity to get adopted out.

He is the sweetest dog and he has had such a terrible life so far, I just couldn't bear it if anything happened to him after he's made it this far."

Quite the story, huh??
