I received this letter in the mail today --

-- actually, a picture, from someone wanting to surrender their boy, Lox --

Lox looks like a very good boy -- a very good boy in an unlucky situation -- a situation which will likely end with his life.

This boy speaks again and again the trials faced by this this breed (and maybe all breeds). He's an adult pit bull, dark brindle, and his owners no longer want him, for no doing of his own.

Imagine the shelter workers who daily have to deal with such stories, such dumpings, and who have to humanely euthanize such souls -- who could ever do it for long?

For Lox, he is unlucky -- and is at the end of his rope. Hug your dog today, promise you'll never leave him or her, and if you can find room for little Lox in your life, fill out an application above.

Lox in foster care...

Nancy called me again last Monday, saying she was losing her apartment and had to go live with her mom, who lives in assisted living --

-- and that no shelters in the Hartford area would even take dear Lox --

-- we all know what these shelters would do to this boy, a five year old male pit bull, with a dark brindle coat -- :(

So I said, "Sure -- I'll take him."

And have things ever been great since then --

-- first off, nobody could imagine how HANDSOME this boy is -- !!

Here he is outside.

Lox to me was a sad case when he came to SPBR. He was raised by the same family since a puppy, and then, at five years old, he was transported to a world he had never seen before --

-- he was all the things that showed misery -- being ornery, growling, not eating for 4 days, and generally dour --

-- traits that would reveal to shelter staff that he was basically "unadoptable" or "unpredictable" --

-- well, was that ever wrong -- !!

Since last Thursday, little Lox has started eating a raw diet, wags his tail like a puppy when he sees me, and he plays, plays, plays SO great with others -- !!

Here is his picture without a flash --

-- back to his behavior --

-- now he's my best friend, trusting me and always wanting to play --

-- and when he goes down the stairs, he bunny-hops his rear legs --

-- that alone makes him precious -- !!

Here's Loxie's main buddy, Spud -- my boy. Spud is nice and lean lately, which I like --

-- sure, he could stand to gain a few pounds, but who wouldn't want that problem -- !!

Lox is now up for adoption. He is a wonderful boy that makes me love this breed so much.

Instead of running around jumping up and down, he prefers evenings on the sofa, and he loves belly-rubs.

He has the most beautiful, soulful eyes, too...

If you're interested in adopting Lox, and are also willing to add a family-member FOREVER, fill out an adoption application above --

-- this boy is a real beauty, and he has so much love to give -- !!
