Here is the sad story of Sweetie. Her rescuer writes --
"
Hi Eric,
Due to the lack of information coming from the shelter, I've only been able to find out about one of the Pit Bulls so far.
Sweetie literally has the run of the shelter. Sweetie is afraid to stay in the back part of the shelter, where all the big dogs are kenneled, so she is kept up front, where the small dogs, pups, cats and kittens are kept. She roams around the shelter and visits with everyone. She has no problems with other dogs and is fine with the cats.
She is still a pup herself at 6-8 months old. Sweetie loves people. The shelter director told me she follows them around most of the day. They can let her outside with them, off leash, and she stays right with them. Sweetie is going to the vet today to be spayed, given her rabies vaccination and to be heart worm tested.
I'm sure you know that our group had to turn the shelter back over to the County. Meaning the shelter is not a no-kill shelter now. There are a lot of Pit Bull and Pit Bull mixes there. When our group ran the shelter, we didn't even list the bully breeds on the Petfinder site, because all of the crazed emails and phone calls we would get from people, wanting them for all the wrong reasons.
We have no control over where any of the dogs or cats go now and cannot keep any of them safe. The shelter director and workers have been adopting out dogs and cats, and I would hate to see Sweetie (or any of the dogs or cats) go to someone who is going to tie her to a box for the rest of her life, or worse.
I know it's short notice and I apologize for that, but things are very bad at the shelter and getting worse every day. Thanks so much Eric for anything you can do to help this little girl! Missy"
