Astro's Angels...

Click here for Falstaff's 1-1/2 year update!

Click here for his 6 month update!

I posted originally a week ago, about little Astro, who had not seen an easy life. He was initially found by a city employee, doing her rounds in urban Hartford, CT. He was tethered outside, on a two foot leash, to his doghouse, which he outgrew at 4 months of age. In the neighborhood, gunshots were common, and dogfighting was sport.

This angel employee saw the good in Astro, and the bad in his situation -- and she decided to do something about it and not write him off as "another pit bull" -- THANK YOU, B! Below is Astro in the local shelter -- not quite out of the woods yet..

In the next week, Astro was released from the shelter, bathed, loved on, and played with a variety of pups. He was at the vet for his neuter and heartworm test (negative!), plus he got his shots and a lot of "oohs" and "aahs" at his pretty chocolate coat.

Next, enter Kelly and Mark, from Upstate New York. They fell in love with little A's pictures, and had to meet him. I had a prior adopter in Upstate help with the home-visit (THANKS, ALENA!) and the rest was history.

Kelly and Mark came down for a visit and he was everything amd more than they expected -- sweet, puppyish, innocent...

So, here's where the story ends... Astro is in his forever home with his loving parents -- and new adoptive siblings -- we had a great time with you, little boy, and I'm so proud that with all you've been through, you still love with all your heart...

... it was love at first lick, nibble and slobber...

UPDATE!!!

Well, little Astro, now Falstaff, is a little pea in the pod at Kelly's -- here's what she writes:

"Everything is still going very well. Astro, a.k.a. Falstaff, sleeps upstairs with all of us now, so he's pretty happy about that. He and our alpha female, Amber, play a lot. Hudson tries to stop it (he likes to keep things in order) so I'm teaching him to let them go at it (not too rough, of course). Falstaff talks a lot, as you know. It's so cute. Everyone at the vet thought he was ADORABLE. :)"

Falstaff's 1-1/2 year update!

Well, updates come in all sizes, and I received this one recently from Kelly and Mark --

-- a t-shirt, featuring their little man, Falstaff -- !!

Here's the front detail...

... from Falstaff's darkest days in the Hartford Pound...

... and the back detail.

I love this quote --

-- whoever said pit bulls and Shakespeare didn't go together??!!

I also love now knowing how little Falstaff got his name -- !!

And finally, me wearing the shirt for the first time, with Dante, on our way to his lovely home.

Kelly and Mark have done wonders by their little Falstaff --

-- I often get cards they make that feature him, and I have to admit, this t-shirt is my favorite of shirts --

-- for adopters to go to such lengths to me is humbling -- I am so proud of these dogs, and so proud of my adopters, who often exceed my expectations in loving these pups...

... and these are the two reasons I do (and love) rescuing this breed -- for the dogs themselves, and for the wonderful relationships that develop with the adopters.

THANK YOU, Kelly and Mark!
