Crystal's blues finally persuaded them to call her theirs! |

Well, here's Crystal, a mother we picked up at a CT shelter this past winter, with two babies in tow... |
Crystal's babies were placed, and Crystal patiently awaited her turn...
... here she is with her Pinky (black) and Spud, just a wall-flower... !
So, we got a GREAT app on Crystal and loaded her up with Elvis to venture off to northern CT -- !! |
The first steps of the home-visit --
-- looks good -- those floors are EASY to clean -- !!
Next, she meets her new Dad, Ben...
... Crystal says (in my small mind), "Well, now it's time for ME to be babied -- !!"
The bond is almost immediate... they love each other! |
Erin, Ben's girlfriend, shows the pups some new toys they got Crystal...
... the toy shown has stereo-phonic "bling bling bling" sounds --
-- better them than me -- !!
What I really LOVE to see at home-visits -- adoption check-lists, "dog tips" and obedience classes --
-- Crystal's gonna do great here -- !!!
Here we all are, finishing up her paperwork... |
Crystal gives me a final hug good-bye... |
... and stays her silly self -- !!
Ben writes since the placement:
"She is awesome!!! We are now starting to settle down and she is less excited as things get more familiar for her. She sleeps in her crate right beside the bed at night and doesn't make a sound- that really surprised me. I think it will take awhile before she doesn't pull on the leash, but in general she does well."
He continues...
"Oh man, yesterday I took Crystal along with my buddy Todd and his Jack Russell, Rosco, and went on a three mile walk. It was funny to watch her try and play with Rosco, being that he was so much smaller than she is. At one point she appeared to not be getting enough attention from him and walked up behind him, sat, and swatted him completely to his surprise - very funny to witness.
Last night I mixed some peanut butter and bacon bits together and filled a bone with the mix and froze it- made sense to me and seemed to work well as a treat for Crystal today while I was at work and she was in her crate.

So, there you have it... one of the "unadoptables" considered by many instead proves herself a princess, loved and loving...
... thank you, Erin and Ben, for giving Crystal the love and attention she deserves --
-- we'll look forward to hearing about her future journeys -- !!

April 2005 update!
Well, here's some update shots of Ben and sweet Crystal -- all settled in and happy as clams... |
... and here's the money-shot -- a happy Crystal -- loving her new digs --

Crystal's Dad, Ben, writes:
"Where to begin...Crystal continues to amaze me. This weekend I played host to my parents and three sisters and she was great about greeting everyone and not seeming nearly as stressed as I was at having my family and Erin all under one roof. The highlight of the weekend was Saturday when my buddy Rafael visited along
with his wife Maria and their 18 month old son Ellijah."
He continues:
"Initially I was worried that Crystal would be too energetic and jumpy to safely be loose while Ellijah was walking around. My fears were quickly put to rest when Rafael and Maria opted to let Crystal play with Ellijah. SHE WAS SOOOO GOOD! She followed him around and gave him an abundance of kisses. At one point it was obvious that she was feeling a lack of attention, but Crystal never got nippy or aggressive towards the little man."
and...
"I regret not having a picture of the two of them together, it truly was adorable. I've included a few pictures- one of she and I, a few or her lazyin' around, and one of her with the new mega-bone Erin's aunt sent down for Crystal.
Take care,
Ben"
Well, Crystal looks CONTENT, that's for sure -- !!
THANK YOU to Ben and Erin for adopting an adult pup --
-- Crystal is certainly thankful for your love!

July 2006!
Well, all is well with Crystal and family! They write --
"Eric, I hope this email finds you well, and contently invovled with Smilin Pit Bull. We are proud to report that Crystal is weighing in around 60lbs and is currently loving life in VT. Her new vet was very impressed with her sparkling health and demeanor.
Despite a scare earlier this spring, she tested negative for lyme disease, and has a "beautiful coat" according to the vet. A week from now Crystal, Ben and I will be beginning a week long relocation to San Diego, CA.
I have attached a few newer snapshots of the little girl.
Erin and Ben"

Well, the picture below says so much to me, and it makes me so happy.
It reminds me of the cold December day that I pulled Angel and her two babies from the dingy urban shelter, and her wonderful behavior all through motherhood --
-- it reminds me of the home visit to Ben's and Erin's, where I was so happy they were so in love with her --
-- and it reminds me why I rescue these wonderful creatures -- for the love they give, and for the great owners out there like Erin and Ben, who reciprocate that love, and for whom I am ever thankful.
