Well, here's little Trixie, the lab-pit baby from South Carolina. More on her background can be found here.
Trixie was a coveted puppy -- for some reason, EVERYONE wanted her -- !!
In Chrissie's application, here's where she closed the deal --
Q: Why are you looking to adopt from a rescue as opposed to a shelter?
A: We would be happy adopting from anywhere, as long as the animal was in need of a home. I am greatly opposed to buying animals from pet stores.
So, with that, the transport was on -- !!
Here's the view out of the front windshield of my car as I trekked through PA to help connect these babies to the North...
Here's my destination, Kelly and her boyfriend, Dan, who did amazing work in transporting and overnighting these babies from their SC origination to their PA hand-off.
Kelly connected with me through the online group, www.pb-smiles.com -- a great resource to find out how to help pit bulls in need, and a place to talk about the breed in general.
Here's the babies before their home-visit debut, all purtied up and smelling like roses -- !!
Here's Eric, Chrissie's husband, when he met Trixie --
-- Eric is an engineer who designs building systems -- his wife, Chrissie, is completing veterinary school --
-- DID YOU HEAR THAT, TRIX?? Momma's gonna be a vet -- !! You lucky little girl you -- !!
Trixie says, "Enough talkin', let's get to rubbin'" --
-- and rub we do, with her little legs assuming the position for a belly-rub -- !!
When we enter their house, we see a familiar sight -- !!
... and Trixie explores her new world -- her bowl speaking her sentiments EXACTLY -- !!
So there we have it, Trixie is home -- shown here with her grandma and dad, Eric --
-- just look at Trixie's face -- she almost looks humbled by her happiness -- !!
One month later...
Well, Trixie is growing in to a proper young lady...
... her momma writes:
"I hope all is well with you!! i just wanted to give you an update and some pictures of Trixie. She is such a sweetheart!!
We go to a puppy school - well it's really more like a puppy playtime - and she loves playing with the other puppies!! We are working on Sit and Down and Come."
"At night she sleeps in her crate and she loves it. She likes to bring all her toys in there.
She fits into our family so well - Eric and I love her so much!! Thank you for bringing her to us!"
Well, kinder words have never been spoken -- and pictures and notes like this make it all worth it --
-- Trixie is soon packing her bags and heading to Kansas, where Chrissie will resume her classes, with her dad Eric in tow, too!!
There is nothing but happy days ahead for this girl. Her momma will be a great representative for the breed, too, spreading the good word for pit bulls and pit bull mixes --
-- GREAT WORK, ALL!!
Five months later!
Well, all has been great with little Trix -- !!
Her momma writes --
"Hello Eric!
We thought you would enjoy hearing an update about little Trixie!!! We drove back to Kansas in August and I must say she has adjusted very well to her new home.
Our kitties don't like her too much but as long as Trixie keeps her distance everyone is happy."
"We had a very warm fall, so we took her to the lake by our house and guess what -- she knows how to SWIM!! She is like a fish and loves to retrieve sticks we would throw out to her!
Now that it is colder, we can't go to the lake anymore but she has so many doggy friends and they play together all the time. "
"She is in the Basic Obedience class out here and graduation is next week. She does very well in the class, but sometimes she thinks it is a big dog playtime!!
On weekend mornings when Eric and I can sleep late, we let her cuddle in bed with us and she is so cute.
We adore her!!"
"For Christmas, we got her a new bed (she accidentally chewed her old one!). This bed is supposed to be chew proof - the company guarantees that your dog will not be able to chew through it! We'll see about that. Thank you again for bringing her to us.
Love, Chrissie, Eric, and Trixie!"
Well now, if these stories don't brighten a cloudy day -- !!
Thank you, all, for making Trixie's success a family affair -- and thank you especially for taking her through obedience -- it's one of the best things a pup and family can have during baby's first year --
Eric writes -- "I was just on your web site reading some of the great stories and thought I would update you on Trixie. Well...our first year with her has been fantastic.
We have taken her through obedience, basic agility, and advanced agility classes. She has become quite a jumper! This past spring, Chrissie's Vet school hosted a fun little event called the Dog and Jog. There are several races, jogs, or walks that the community can participate.
They also have an agility course. Attached is a picture of Trixie jumping one of the obstacles."
"We also take her to the park every day. We are lucky enough to have 3 parks within 10 minutes of our home that we can let he run. One of her favorites is Warner Park where she can run through the woods and on trails.
I attached a picture of her in the woods from this spring. We also have a lot of fields that she likes to run in (picture attached)"
"And finally, we have discovered yet another activity that she enjoys. Since we have had temperatures in the high 90's and 100's this summer, we have been putting a sprinkler in our backyard. Well lets just say it is hours of fun in the sun. I attached a movie I took.
We hope you enjoy the pictures and we look forward to reading more great stories on the SPBR website."
Well, here's the video of our girl, Trixie, enjoying her summer days --
-- just hit "play" when the video is fully loaded, and turn your sound ON -- !!
And, in short, these are the adopters I dream about --
-- doing everything with their girl that they can, enjoying every moment of it, and sending us PICTURES and VIDEOS -- !!
